چکیده

Pharmacological studies of S. saligna revealed that the crude ethanolic extracts of S. saligna (aerial parts) and roots were cytotoxic and antibacterial but produced no platelet aggregation induced by ADP. Antibacterial activity of four alkaloids (compounds) was determined for the first time against 11 bacterial strains .Compound 1 (Sracosalgmine) showed moderate activity against Shigella boydii, Klebsiella pneumoniae. Compound 2 (Sracosalgminol) showed less activity with Staphylococuss aureus and Streptococuss pyrogens. Compound 3 (sracosalgnenone) and Compound 4 (14-15 dehydrosarcovagine-D) were inactive against all bacterial strains.

Intersting SAR studies of pregnane alkaloids isolated from genus Sarcococca against cholinesterase enzymes

The genus Sarcococca is widely distributed in South-East Asia and it comprises 14 species. The genus is traditionally used for gastrointestinal ulcers, infections, pain and in rheumatic fevers. Recently, our group has derived a comprehensive SAR relationship picture for a new series of natural cholinesterase inhibitors isolated from Sarcococca saligna (syn. S. pruniformis, Buxaceae). The fracti...

Steroidal Alkaloids as an Emerging Therapeutic Alternative for Investigation of Their Immunosuppressive and Hepatoprotective Potential

The compounds, sarcovagine-D, alkaloid-C, and holaphylline isolated from Sarcococca saligna were found to possess immunosuppressive activities. These compounds were characterized for in vitro inhibition on human T-cells proliferation and IL-2 production. The compounds showed significant immunosuppressive effect on IL-2 production as well as on phytohemagglutinin stimulated T-cell proliferation ...
